One major obstacle to origin of life studies is that amino acids come in two forms, left-handed and right handed. Life, with perhaps one or two exceptions, exclusively uses left-handed amino acids. In nature the ratio of these two forms are almost exactly 50/50. There have been a few meteors from outerspace that have exhibited ratios of 48/52. The first thing that an origin of life researcher has to do before he attempts to construct life from scratch is get rid of all the right handed amino acids. This is primary fallacy that many origin of life researchers make when attempting to construct life from scratch: they tweak the conditions that do not mirror anything that resembles nature.
